Fishing Reports
This Week's Report
Sept. 23-29, 2007
The Watauga Tailwater is fishing great. We are still seeing the small tan caddis and cranflies and some nice rainbows and browns are being brought in with their dry fly imitations. We are starting to see a few of the October Caddis hatching in the afternoon as we float the lower river. We nymphing when there is no hatch we are using caddis larvae and zebra midges deep under indicators. The terrestrial bite is still there, but slowing down. One young man caught a nice rainbow using one of our “Beetle Benders” patterns.
The South Holston is still having some good sulphur hatches during our afternoon floats. We are using a tan sulphur comparadun when the hatch is in full force. As the hatch starts and dies down we are using sulphur emerger nymphs. A few BWO’s are starting to show up on the cool morning wade trips. The terrestrial bite has slowed dramatically but a few fish can be caught on hopper patterns in the late afternoon.

The Holston Proper is fishing great. During our float trips the past week the bite has changed. We had been using poppers all day on our trips, but this past week they are wanting something under the surface. We are using clousers, small streamers, and the wiggle minnow. There is plenty of grass in the river right now and it is starting to break lose in big clumps and float down river.
The Delayed Harvest season starts in North Carolina this week and we will be helping on the stocking the streams in and around the Boone, Banner Elk area. The fish that they have stocked the last couple of years have been nice and we are looking forward to some nice fish being caught during this years season
We are looking forward to the fall and winter fishing seasons. We still have openings but are booking trips daily so be sure to give us a call or email to make sure you have the date you want.
Be sure to come back next week for more reports.
