Fishing Reports
This Week's Report
Oct. 29-Nov. 4, 2007
Here is the fishing report for the week of October 29th through the November 4th. With the cooler weather the trips are slowing down some, which translated into some days off this week.
Monday was a day of tying flies to start getting my inventory filled back up for next season. There are many standard flies that work all the time and you need many of each size to carry you through the season. Today was all about pheasant tails and prince nymphs.
Tuesday was spent being in a training class on how to use a new piece of equipment for my volunteer work with the Washington County/Johnson City Emergency Management Association. We received a new re-hab trailer from the Tennessee Fire Fighters Chaplains Association.
Wednesday was a day for me. I went down and fished the Tuckaseegee River in and around the Sylva and Dillsboro, North Carolina area. It was a relaxing day to get out and fish the many different types of water the Tuck has to offer.
Thursday was a float trip on the Watauga Tailwater. The day was cool and crisp as the morning began and the fish were being cooperative. Lappy had caught the first two of the fish needed towards a grand slam in the first hole on the river. He worked hard on trying for the rainbow to finish the Watauga Slam, but a cold front started coming through and it was like somebody had turned the switch off. The fish activity had almost come to a standstill, but with the Dumb Blonde he was able to hook a nice rainbow in the 16" category. The fishing really slowed down after that so Lappy said he wanted to work on some streamer techniques for another upcoming return trip with me.
On Friday I spent the day with the wife doing some Christmas shopping in the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area. We had a nice lunch at the Applewood Farmhouse, this is one place I highly recommend if you are in the Smokies and want a great place to eat.
We floated the Holston River for smallmouth Saturday with Clint and Terry Edens of Nashville. Terry had taken several trips with me before and wanted to bring his son up to East Tennessee and introduce him to our great smallmouth rivers. It was foggy when we started the float, and it took a couple of hours for it to burn off. The fishing was slow until the sun started to warm the waters surface. We started seeing smallies working minnows in the shoals and we started picking up some fish. As the sun got higher in the sky and the water warmed we saw more activity. Once we really keyed in on where they were staged and what lure they wanted the catch ratio picked up considerably. Clint was working a fluke at the tail of a deep pool in Goshen Valley and he saw a smallie come streaking across the pool to get his lure. He fought the fish to the boat and below is a picture of that fish. He talked about how cool it was to be able to see his lure and work it in the clear water and then see the fish come after it.

Sunday was a day off from fishing but another day in the wood shop with Nes working on his new skiff. We applied 2 more flow coats of epoxy to the interior sides of the boat side panels. The increasing depth of the epoxy really makes the mahogany colors stand out. We are getting close to starting stitching it together.
We are transitioning from the late Fall to Winter fishing seasons. From what we are seeing on the rivers it is going to be a good Winter season. We still have some openings for November and are starting to book some in December. Be sure to contact us if we can be of assistance with a wade or float trip.
I want to thank those that stop by to read my fishing reports, I hope you continue to come back.
