This Week's Report
Nov. 19-25, 2007
Welcome to the fishing report for the week of November 19th through the 25th. This week we celebrated Thanksgiving. This is my favorite holiday, I have so many things to be thankful for in my life and this week gives me time to reflect on this and be very thankful.
Monday was a day off. I spent the day getting ready for an upcoming series of trips tying up some midge patterns to be used.
Tuesday was a all day wade trip with Rich and Dave from Florida. We started off the morning with casting lessons at the Metcalf Bottoms area. Rich was completely new to the sport, but Dave used to fish the South Holston many years ago with family members. Dave quickly got the feel back and Rich was right behind him on learning his new skills. We caught some browns along the picnic area before breaking for lunch. After lunch we moved to Elkmont. Things were slow there, so the guys felt we needed to move on to another stream. We finished the day above the Tremont Institute where the guys got to bring some rainbows to hand.
Wednesday was a day off. I spent the day helping my wife prepare things for our family Thanksgiving meal.
Thanksgiving Day. We spent some quality time with my wife’s family eating a great meal and enjoying a beautiful fire in the large fireplace at the clubhouse.
Friday was a full day wade trip in Foscoe, North Carolina. We fished the Watauga River below the Valle Crucis city park. This was a father and son from Florida. The fish were stacked up in the deeper pools as the air temperatures were in the upper 20’s with 10 to 15 mph winds. As the sun got on the pool we were fishing in the activity picked up quickly. They had a great time catching some nice rainbows out of this pool before breaking for lunch. See the picture below.
After lunch we moved to another section of river. The fishing has slowed some but they caught more rainbows before the day ended.

Saturday was a half-day wade trip in North Carolina. We fished the Watauga River near the Hounds Ear Golf Club. We worked on some fish rising to small caddis that were hatching. We only had the hatch for about fifteen minutes and several browns and brookies were brought in before the hatch ended. We stopped at noon so they could go skiing on Sugar Mountain before getting back to their cabin to watch some college football.
Sunday was a day spent with my wife, watching her make my Christmas present, a beautiful cross-stitch picture of a lakefront and mountain scene. She is almost done with it.
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and didn’t eat too much. I am looking forward to the upcoming Christmas holidays and being able to go to spend time with my daughter and new son-in-law.
If you want to give a fishing trip for someone for a Christmas gift, we have gift certificates available.
